PUGG Blog

Throughout 2022, PUGG worked with numerous collaborators to explore the legacy of Benjamin Wigfall, a local artist/visionary whose life and work as a printmaker, educator, and community activist served as a model for bringing people together in a shared creative community.

PUGG presented Material Heritage on November 5th, 2022; a multi-hyphenate exploration into community storytelling through material, layered processes, and collective record. Inspired by the abounding legacy of Communications Village, this group exhibition was a culmination of studio visits, workshops, and discussions on art as a tool for survival. In what ways may practice, process, and community care give way to sustenance? How can records of past and present lend themselves to nurtured futures? What is possible with the materials at hand? Perhaps we already have everything we need. Having seen through to survival, is there potential now to flourish?

The 2024 Jell-O Jamboree was a roaring success, with new Jell-O sculptures, live performances, various Jell-O themed games and rewards, and PUGG-made merchandise. All of the support we’ve received went right to helping the D.R.A.W. continue to serve the community and present more events like these.

PUGG worked with members of our local community to create the “Holding Space for Tenderness” project. They met with members of different gathering sites in Kingston and photograph pictures of their hands holding an object they cherish. Led by artist Carmen Lizardo, these photographs were printed as cyanotypes and brought together to compose a mural that represents our unity as people.

The steamrolling printing event of the 2023 Draw-A-Thon. Friends of the D.R.A.W. came out to create their own large-scale designs to be pressed at the event.
